CG

CG is an experimental audio-visual noise duo; a collaboration with Carlos Campos.

The basis of the music stems from a special usage case for audio-visual composition that we developed for conjoined practices, where we manipulate video materials to create ambient sound compositions, allowing us to improvise freely.
As a live act, we attempt to break old paradigms of real-time music composition and improvisation by utilizing multiple disciplines, namely sound (audio) and visual (video) composition. The unique live setup we use mirrors our main interests, boasting electroacoustic, as well as electronic instruments, mixed with a hybrid setup.

CG
started from a joint interest in experimental noise music and audio-visual arts. Initially, we came together in an attempt to give an answer to multi-disciplinary arts problems we encountered in our own creative process, combining visual composition with sound synthesis through a juxtaposition of meaningful data found in video footage, and its assimilation and transformation between the mediums of video and sound. The unique sound we achieved stems from using a bespoke software titled ‘VideoSynth’, as a single project titled ‘Video Instrumentalization’. By extending the compositional techniques used by the artists, we continued work separately from the development of the software, using improvisational techniques and electronic instruments for live performances.

We have played numerous shows in Porto, Portugal, each being a test-bed for testing new visual ideas and hearing them play out using real time video manipulation tools that are constantly sonified, in a creative loop between sonification techniques and audio-visual composition.
